EcoDistrict Index

The EcoDistrict Index provides a set of indicators to track neighborhood progress towards achieving sustainability targets within the EcoDistrict and our performance areas.

How were the current metrics chosen?

Throughout 2014, CHH worked with a task force of community members and technical experts to identify key performance metrics, collect data to establish baselines, and develop a reporting system to share progress over time.  This process also included review by the University of Washington’s Cities Collaboratory, and feedback from an interdepartmental group of City of Seattle staff.  We used the following 7 criteria to guide our decision making.

  • Place specific.
  • Scale appropriate.
  • Measurable.
  • Relevant to real issues.
  • Congruent with partner organizations.
  • Evaluated and adjusted over time.
  • Easy to communicate.

We hope the Index sparks conversation and improves over time with your help.  Below are the initial targets and baselines.

What’s Next?

  • At the end of 2015 we conducted our first Index Update to track progress.  Check our blog for analysis of how Capitol Hill is changing in these areas.
  • In 2016 we will perform a review of the Index for additions and revisions including our first indicators for the Culture performance area.
  • We want your feedback!  Tell us what you think about the Index.  Help us make it better.
